Dental Implants in Fairfield & Bayside VIC
Dental implants are restorations that are designed to replace missing teeth – no matter how many there are! In fact, implant therapy has become the standard of tooth replacement therapy for adults who are candidates for the treatment.
Each implant is made up of an artificial root that is placed into the jaw, where the missing tooth previously stood. As new bone forms around this root, the implant becomes permanently fixed into place. In fact, the new bone support will make the implant so strong that it can bear more weight than a natural tooth.
Dental Implant Restorations
Depending on how many teeth are being replaced, implants can support:
- Individual porcelain crowns
- Dental Bridges
- Fixed Dentures (All-on-4)
The number of implants will depend on how many teeth are being replaced. For instance, if there are 4 teeth in a row which are missing, you would most likely select a 4 unit fixed bridge with two dental implants supporting it (one on each end.) For a full mouth denture, only 4 implants may be needed.
The Placement Process
Implant placement involves a surgical procedure to place the implant directly into the bone. To keep you comfortable, the area is completely numbed, as it would be during any other type of procedure.
Once the surgical site has completely healed and new bone is developed, an abutment is placed onto the implant root. Then the permanent restoration is bonded directly over the abutment.
