Veneers in Hampton and Fairfield VIC
Dental Veneers Transform Smiles
Sparkle Dental Care offers both porcelain and composite veneers in our Bayside and Fairfield, VIC dental clinics. Veneers are unique cosmetic restorations that change the way your teeth look; without changing the foundation of your smile. Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain or composite that are bonded directly over the front surface of your tooth, one tooth at a time. When several veneers are placed next to one another, it transforms the appearance of your entire smile.
For the most dramatic smile makeover possible, dental veneers are often the treatment of choice. Take a look at the questions below to help you decide as to whether veneers might be right for you. What are veneers?
Veneers are wafer-thin, shell-like tooth covers that go over the fronts of the teeth that show when you smile. They can hide stains and other imperfections with your smile, such as gaps, chips and misalignment. Because they have a similar translucency as your teeth, they provide you with a smile upgrade that looks very natural.
Because your dentist bonds the veneers to the front of your teeth after some amount of your tooth enamel has been removed, they are considered a permanent cosmetic alteration.
You can opt for one veneer if you need to fix just one tooth, or you can change the look of your entire smile with veneers.
What types of problems can veneers address?
We typically use veneers to cover aesthetic concerns on teeth that may be:
- Crowded or crooked
- Discoloured and stained
Patients who have crooked or misaligned teeth but who do not relish the idea of undergoing months or even years of orthodontic treatment are often delighted to learn that veneers can give them the straight smile they have dreamed of. Dubbed 'instant orthodontics' by some, veneers can hide a crooked smile and give recipients a perfectly straight, even smile in just a couple of visits to the dentist.
What can I expect with the veneers process?
Your veneer appointment process will depend on the type of veneer that you choose. Composite veneers are typically designed right here in our office and take one appointment to complete. Our dentists prepare your natural teeth and use composite materials in the colour of your preference to re-shape and bond over the front of your natural tooth.
Porcelain veneers are made in an off-site laboratory by a dental lab technician. At your first appointment, we will adjust the teeth and then take an impression, which is sent off to our lab with instructions on your preferred tooth shape and colours. We then place a temporary veneer over your tooth to prevent sensitivity.
In about two weeks you will return to our Fairfield, VIC or Bayside, VIC dental clinics. One of our dentists will permanently bond the porcelain veneers over your teeth. You will leave our dental clinic with a beautiful, white, straight smile that you can enjoy for years to come.
Who is eligible to get veneers?
Most people who have a cosmetic issue with their smile make good candidates for veneers. Before you get veneers, our Fairfield, VIC and Bayside, VIC dentists will conduct a thorough examination to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. If your teeth and gums are not as healthy as we’d like, our dentists will help you with a programme to improve your oral health.
What’s the difference between teeth whitening and veneers?
Both teeth whitening and veneers can improve the look of your smile in a relatively short amount of time. The effects of teeth whitening are not permanent, and teeth whitening does not change anything about your teeth other than the colour.
Since we will need to remove some of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneers, these are a permanent treatment. Veneers provide a more dramatic improvement to your smile, especially if you have cosmetic issues such as chips and cracks, gaps, uneven spacing, misalignment and stains that might be resistant to teeth whitening treatment. Veneers can be made as white as you’d like them to be, and they will not stain the way your teeth can stain.
Does it hurt to get veneers?
Nobody likes dental pain, and one of the questions patients considering veneers often ask at our Fairfield, VIC and Bayside, VIC dental clinics is whether the procedure hurts. The good news is that there may be some mild discomfort when we remove a small amount of the tooth structure to make room for the veneers, but it is not painful for most people. Removing a small portion of the tooth surface gives the veneers a natural look that is well worth it.
Will the veneers feel uncomfortable in my mouth?
Your veneers will feel smooth and glossy when you run your tongue over them, much like your teeth might feel after a professional dental clean at our Fairfield, VIC or Bayside, VIC dental clinics. As with any dental procedure, you might need to get used to the way they feel in your mouth because you will likely notice even small changes in your bite and in the positions of your teeth. Because veneers are so thin, there won’t be much difference.
If you are experiencing any discomfort or another difficulty after the veneers procedure, we welcome you to contact one of our dental clinics.
What do I need to do to take care of my veneers?
One of the many benefits of veneers is that they are easy to take care of. You can continue practicing good home care by brushing and flossing regularly. Be sure to visit our Fairfield or Bayside dental clinics twice each year before and after you get your veneers.
Unlike your natural teeth, which are prone to staining and yellowing, your veneers will stay white and bright as long as you have them. Don’t use a whitening toothpaste on your veneers as the abrasives in this type of toothpaste can scratch your veneers.
Never use your teeth as a tool or to chew on anything other than food. This is a common-sense rule to follow whether you have veneers or not.
How long can I expect my veneers last?
If you take care of your veneers and visit our dental clinic regularly for check-ups and cleans, you can expect your veneers to last a decade or even longer. Once your veneers start to show signs of wear, we can design a new set of veneers to replace the old ones.
