Restoring Badly Damaged Teeth

If a tooth has broken or decayed too near the gumline, it may be difficult if not wholly impossible to restore the tooth. After all, a certain amount of tooth structure must be present in order to support a prosthesis such as a crown or bridge. By adjusting the gumline to expose a larger portion of the tooth, we are able to lengthen the visible crown and have enough structure present to support a fixed crown or bridge.

Managing Periodontal Disease

In periodontal disease, deep gum pockets surround each tooth. Cleaning these gum pockets can be very difficult to do, especially if they are severe. By making these pockets “shallower” through crown lengthening, it is easier to clean them thoroughly each day. This improves the oral hygiene process, periodontal therapy response and ability to avoid food packed below the gumline.
