Laser Dentistry in Fairfield and Hampton VIC
Your gums are the outline for your smile, and if you don’t like the way your gums look because they interfere with your smile, laser dentistry might be an option for you.
What Is Laser Dentistry?
Are your gum tissues uneven? Do you have a large amount of gum tissue visible when you smile? Gingival recontouring is a simple way to correct concerns like these and others. Using gentle laser therapy, the gumlines can be adjusted without the use of surgical techniques. Unlike traditional surgery, laser surgery does not require stitches; therefore, patients often enjoy greater comfort and faster healing times.
We typically recommend laser dentistry when our patients experience:
- ‘Gummy’ smiles
- An overgrowth of gum tissue
- Teeth that appear shorter than normal
- Uneven gumlines
- Unhealthy gym margins around restorations
- Gingival recontouring
- Tight or overgrown tissue under the tongue (tongue-tie)
Cosmetic Gingival (Gum) Recontouring
Soft tissue laser technology allows us to offer our patients an alternative cosmetic service that is minimally invasive, comfortable and creates dramatic effects. With soft tissue lasers, the gum tissues can be treated for disease as well as adjusted to be more aesthetically pleasing.
Once completed, the procedure leaves teeth looking fuller and more even, and minimises bulky gum tissues. The entire process takes only a few minutes to complete from start to finish.
Excessive Gum Tissue
One of the greatest benefits of laser gingivectomies is the ability to avoid discomfort and lengthy recovery times. Lasers use light energy to close the area being treated, preventing the need for sutures or wound maintenance. Instead, Sparkle Dental patients go home feeling as if hardly anything happened at all!
Laser gingivectomy therapy can be done without local anaesthesia, but of course we always offer it on our patients. For more information about laser gingivectomy, speak to our friendly dental team at Sparkle Dental Care.
Periodontal Gum Treatments
When periodontal disease causes pockets between the teeth and gums, it creates a harbour for bacteria. Soft-tissue dental lasers can remove diseased tissue and bacteria that lead to an advanced infection. In some cases, lasers can promote the regeneration of healthy tissue. When the area is clean and free from bacteria, healing can begin.
Our hygienists and dentists will evaluate gum health with a periodontal exam at each visit. We look for signs of inflammation, bleeding, and pocketing. In its early stage, called gingivitis, gum disease is sometimes reversible. As it advances, regular dental maintenance at more frequent intervals can help us manage the condition.
