Dentures offer patients an affordable and comfortable solution to tooth loss. With dentures, we can replace your missing teeth to create better oral health and a complete smile.
Modern dentures do require some maintenance, but it’s a straightforward cleaning process, making them a good option for patients who value ease of use.
Cleaning Your Dentures
Since we can’t whiten your dentures to remove stains the same way we can with your natural teeth, it’s essential to keep your dentures clean and stain-free. With regular denture cleaning, you can keep your dentures as bright and attractive as possible while also keeping your gums and any remaining teeth healthy.
To keep your dentures clean, brush them every day, as you would your natural teeth, with a soft toothbrush. Alternatively, you can use a toothbrush specifically designed for use with dentures. Do not use regular toothpaste with your dentures. Regular toothpaste is abrasive and can actually scratch your dentures. Instead, use denture paste or a non-abrasive soap.
Once you’ve finished cleaning your dentures, rinse them carefully.
Other Denture Care Tips
In addition to cleaning your dentures, you should remove them nightly and soak them in a water-based cleaning solution. Removing your dentures nightly gives your bones and gums time to rest, and soaking them overnight gives them a good, proper clean.
Also, to keep your dentures in the best shape, avoid eating crunchy or hard foods that could scratch them. Also, try not to chew gum while wearing dentures. Chewing gum can stick to your dentures or cause erosion over time.
When you get dentures in our practice, we will provide you with full care instructions and answer any questions you may have about getting the most out of your restoration.
