Can sleep apnoea be cured?

There is no cure for sleep apnoea; however, changing certain lifestyle factors like avoiding alcohol, smoking or being a healthy weight can help you control the symptoms. Sleep apnoea treatment can help you avoid the many risks of sleep apnoea by delivering healthy levels of oxygen to absorb into the blood for healthy organ function.

What Are the Signs of Sleep Apnoea?

Signs of sleep apnoea can vary widely from person to person. A few of the most common ones include:

  • Loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep
  • Waking feeling tired even though you were in bed for hours
  • Dry mouth or a sore throat
  • Daytime drowsiness and sleepiness
  • Cloudy thinking
  • Depression, anxiety or other mood disorders

You might not know that you have sleep apnoea unless you have a partner or family member tells you they hear your snoring or disordered breathing.

Treatments for Sleep Apnoea in Hampton and Fairfield

The first line of OSA treatment often included CPAP therapy. Continuous positive air pressure treatment uses a face mask to deliver a constant flow of oxygen during sleep.

Another option is oral appliance therapy. Oral appliance therapy uses a mouthguard to gently move the lower jaw forward to open the airway. This works best for patients with mild to moderate OSA. We will work with your sleep doctor to help you get the treatment you need for a restful night’s sleep.
