It is generally advised that your child come in for their first dental visit, when the first baby tooth is visible or when they reach 12 months - whichever comes first. Of course, if there is something concerning you, it is better to have it assessed earlier.

The dentist will take a full medical history and look at your child's overall health and development. Although this may appear to be very casual and laid back; it is still an important milestone in your child's dental development. The initial dental visit is to start the process of getting your child accustomed to the smells, sounds, equipment and people at the dental office. It is to help your child form a favourable perception of the visits to the dentist.

IT is also a wonderful opportunity for you as the parents to discuss any concerns you may have.
Topics that might be discussed include:

  • Teething
  • How to brush your child's teeth
  • What toothpaste to use
  • Tongue ties
  • Enlarged tonsils, persistent colds and infections
  • Habits: such as thumb sucking, mouth breathing
  • Risk of getting decay and how to prevent it
  • Nutritional advised to decrease chance of decay as well as assisting in growth of jaw bones
  • The bite (occlusion)
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Dear Patients,

The health and safety of our staff and patients is most important. We have therefore made the difficult decision to temporarily close both practices from Thursday 9th July until 27th September. We will re-open for routine dental treatment including regular dental maintenance under level 2 dental restriction from Monday, 28th September.

Meanwhile for any emergency cases, our front office and dentist will still be taking calls and providing you with the necessary support.

Take care, stay healthy and safe. Thank you for your patience and we'll see you soon!
