Many people who come to our Melbourne dentist clinic don’t understand the reason for preventive care visits every six months. After all, they surmise, if I don’t feel any pain in my mouth, all must be well. But the truth is that many dental issues start very small, with no signs or symptoms. Often by the time realise something is amiss, they need serious dental treatment.

When you come to Sparkle Dental Care every six months for check-ups and cleans, we can examine your mouth to ensure all is well. If we do spot a potential issue while it’s still small, treatment is generally easier, less invasive and less expensive. This can be a major time and money saver in the long run.

Your Biannual Preventive Care Appointment

We recommend you visit your Melbourne dentist twice each year for check-ups and cleans. Your dental examination will include a tooth-by-tooth examination, checking for possible issues such as tooth decay. We will also look at your gums, checking for signs of gum infection. Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss among adults, and it often begins slowly with no signs. If you don’t go to the dentist regularly, you might develop serious gum disease and not even know you have it.

We will also do a professional dental clean of your teeth, removing the plaque and calculus that has built up on your teeth. Even the most diligent of home oral care doesn’t enable you to remove all of the plaque. When it builds up, only a professional’s dental tools can remove it.

We will also polish your teeth, removing surface stains and giving you a cleaner-looking smile.

In some cases, we may also recommend dental x-rays to see if we can detect any problems that might be lurking below the surface.
